  • Often, parents reach out to us for tutoring support when they notice their child facing challenges in school. This usually occurs following a poor report card, progress report, or a concerning discussion with school officials about the student’s academic difficulties. Frequently, there are suspicions of learning disabilities or dyslexia, but an official diagnosis from a professional may not yet be available. Despite the lack of a formal evaluation, the immediate need to address the child's academic issues remains.

To effectively identify the student’s strengths and areas for improvement, we utilize a series of standardized educational tests from the Woodcock Johnson IV Tests of Achievement. The Woodcock Johnson offers a comprehensive assessment with 20 tests covering reading, writing, mathematics, and academic knowledge.

When we receive a tutoring request, particularly in cases where no recent testing has been conducted, our first step is to connect with the parents. We discuss their concerns and insights to determine which specific areas require evaluation. This conversation guides us in selecting the most relevant subtests from the Woodcock Johnson to craft a tailored educational plan for the student.

After administering the selected subtests, we provide the parents with a detailed written report of their child’s performance. These results, which include grade and age equivalents, percentile ranks, standard scores, and relative proficiency index scores, offer a clear picture of the student's abilities. We encourage parents to share these findings with school personnel, psychologists, medical practitioners, or other relevant professionals.

Our role extends beyond just delivering these results. We are committed to explaining their implications, illustrating how they affect the student's school performance, and using this information to develop a diagnostic plan and find the best tutor match for the student.

This initial assessment also establishes baseline data, marking the student's starting skill level. Upon request, we can conduct a follow-up Woodcock Johnson assessment after a year or more of tutoring to track and measure the student’s progress, providing tangible evidence of their academic growth.

  • At the core of a student's academic journey is the invaluable role of parent involvement. Recognizing this, we extend our expertise not only to students but also to parents, empowering them to be active participants in their child’s education.

Equipping Parents with Essential Skills: We believe in teaching parents the skills they need to effectively support their children's learning journey. This empowerment enables parents to confidently assist with homework, projects, and overall academic development.

Guidance for Informed Decisions: Our team provides insights and advice to help parents make informed decisions about their child's academic future. Whether it's choosing between public and private schooling, understanding the nuances of regular and special education, or navigating decisions about retention and advancement, we are here to guide you.

Bridging School and Home: We understand the importance of a strong partnership between the school and home. Our services include acting as a liaison in teacher-parent meetings and school staffing, ensuring clear communication and collaborative strategies for the student's benefit.
