The Importance of Summer Tutoring

Dear Parents,

As summer approaches, we want to inform you about the benefits of best practices for your child in the Wilson Reading Program.  Research, as well as our own experience, shows that students who receive 2 hours of Wilson tutoring per week make substantial progress in a timely manner.  When a student attends tutoring only one day a week, the lesson may be limited to a review of past lessons because the gap between sessions is too long.  Additionally, students who attend once a week may only come twice a month due to cancellations and summer activities.  Again, little to no reading gains are made. Summer tutoring offers a wide range of benefits for students of all ages and abilities, including.

1.     Preventing Summer Learning Loss:

Studies show that students can lose significant academic progress over the summer months, particularly in math and reading. Twice-a-week Wilson lessons help your child retain what they’ve learned, and they can also make significant forward progress toward their reading goals.

2.     Personalized Attention:
The school year often has extra distractions that the summer does not have.  Summer is a time when your child can focus solely on the subject being taught without other subjects or activities competing for their attention.

3.     Boosting Confidence:
With consistent support and encouragement, students often return to school in the fall feeling more confident and better prepared.

4.     Bridging Learning Gaps:

Summer tutoring can help fill gaps that may otherwise widen over time. You can avoid summer slump and see summer success.  We have seen students make impressive reading gains in the summer when they attend tutoring consistently twice a week.

5.     Encouraging a Love of Reading:
Tutoring can be adapted to your child’s interests, making reading more enjoyable and helping them see education in a more positive light.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. Together, we can make this summer a season of growth and success!

Warm regards,

Ava
